Martial Activities at Curly Cross II
Curly Cross II will feature a full slate of martial activities throughout the weekend, combining skill, competition, humor, and the lively spirit of the tavern.
Whether you are defending the hall, testing your precision, or proving your wit, there will be challenges for all who answer the call.
🗣️ Period Taunting Competition
“Now go away, or I shall taunt you a second time!”
A period taunting competition has been called, and it shall be conducted. There will be two parts to this competition. Participants do not need to compete in both, but may do so if they wish.
👑 Taunt the Marshal Peerage
All who are not of the marshal peerage are invited to taunt a small panel of marshal peers.
Be warned, however, that if your taunt is too strong, you may find yourself challenged to a duel in return.
Guidelines
- Taunts must remain PG-13
- Taunts should be clever, period-inspired, and entertaining
- Taunts must not be genuinely hurtful
- Let us keep it clean, folks
🎭 Open Taunting Competition
A broader taunting competition will also be held for those wishing to test their wit, delivery, and boldness before the crowd.
Participants will be challenged throughout the contest. Will you claim the bragging rights for the day? Come and try your luck.
🛡️ Heavy Combat: War in the Streets of Curly Cross
War has come to Curly Cross.
Is it rival gangs? An invading force? It matters little. The call has gone out:
Defend the Tavern.
This is not a simple barroom brawl. This is the defense of your home, your hall, and the sanctity of the tavern itself.
What to Expect
- Fighting both outside and within the tavern space
- Melee engagement rules apply
- Every fighter, or team, for themselves
- Option for civilized combat upon request
Fighters are encouraged to bring weapons suitable for close quarters and tavern defense.
🤺 Fencing: Curly Cross Tankard Trial
“To strike with skill, to spare with wisdom, and to never spill what honor holds.”
A day of fencing tournaments built around control, precision, and the ever-present challenge of the tankard.
📌Grappling marshals will be available to conduct authorizations for the grappling experiment

🍺 Tournament I: The Passing Draught
Format: Bear pit
Weapon: Fighter’s preferred form
Rules
- One fighter begins holding the tankard
- After each exchange, the winner holds the tankard
- If defeated, the tankard passes to the victor
Win Condition
- Timed, approximately 15 minutes
- Points based on how long a fighter maintains control
Special Conditions
- Dropping the tankard is an automatic loss
- A clean strike to the tankard is an instant victory
🪨 Tournament II: The Titan Tournament
Format: Double elimination
Weapon: Fighter’s preferred form
A test of endurance and mastery. Bring your best and prove it on the field.
🍽️ Midday Break
- Field closed for approximately 30 minutes for rest and reset
💧 Tournament III: The Steady Hand
Format: Double elimination
Round 1
- Tankard filled halfway with water
- Victory determined by the amount of water remaining
Round 2
- Tankard must remain on the fencer
- It may be worn on a belt or sash
Rules
- The tankard must be held in the off hand during Round 1
- Dropping the tankard is an automatic loss

🏹 Combat Archery
Combat Archery activities are planned as part of the weekend’s martial offerings.
Details, including format and scheduling, will be announced as they are confirmed.
🎯 Archery: Games of Chance
Games of chance, Curly Cross style.
Come try your luck at darts, dice, and cornhole-inspired challenges, archery style. An archer’s skill will be tested on every shot.

🪓 Thrown Weapons: Tavern Brawl Range
The tavern has grown unruly.
It falls to you to restore order.
Step onto the range and bring discipline back to chaos.
Range Activities May Include
- Beer mug throw
- Dagger throw
- Axe chop
- Spear throw to block the exit
- Plumbata to get them on the stairs
